Best Water Cooler Dispenser

Every cell in our body is dependent on water. It helps regulate our body temperature, aids in digestion, improves circulation and is needed for daily physical and mental performance. Owning a water cooler makes it easy and convenient to drink more water throughout the day. Whether you are buying a new water cooler for the house or the office it is important to know what cooler is best for you. This article will hopefully offer a little insight into some of the best water cooler choices available.

Buying a Water Cooler for the House

You and your family can enjoy cool clean water anytime. It’s convenient and encourages an increase in consumption of water throughout the day. It also offers hot water for making tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and instant soups. Most models have a hot water safety device making great for families with young children. The newer models look great in the kitchen and make it easy for your guests to have access to cold water.

Buying a Water Cooler for the Office

Having a water cooler makes it easy for your staff to have access to cold and hot water anytime. Easy access to water can prevent dehydration, leading to an increase in productivity and a positive mood.

Maybe it’s time for a new water cooler. Encourage employees to drink more water by getting rid of the old model that has been around forever. Modern water coolers look inviting and are more hygienic.

Owning Versus Renting

Renting a water cooler may sound like an easier option, however, you can end up paying a lot more than the cost of a new water cooler in just one year. Why not pick the water cooler you want and have a delivery service provide the water.

Where Do I get the Water?

Many companies offer a water delivery service. Even wholesalers like Costco deliver 5-gallon water bottles at a discount to their members. Self-service centers (like those at Walmart) will allow you to get your own filtered water at a fraction of the cost and you can reuse your own bottles.

Types of Water Coolers

The two main type of water coolers are top loading water coolers and bottom loading water coolers. Both provide cold and hot water anytime.

Top Loading Water Coolers

Top loading water coolers are the most economical option. These do require more strength to load and can be messy if not loaded correctly.

Bottom loading water coolers

These are the newer more modern looking water coolers. They are easy on your back and look great because they conceal the jug. Bottom loading water coolers are my favorite but they are a little more expensive than the traditional top loaders.

This convent easy to install water cooler is definitely a favorite. It looks great, comes in black or white and has a ton of great features. It is definitely a great bottom loading cooler in my opinion. It’s so easy to slide that 5-gallon jug right into place and the door conceals the container.  It’s inexpensive price makes it our top pick.

It’s 100% BPA free so you don’t have to worry about drinking harmful chemicals. And it’s stainless steel reservoir prevents any plastic taste. The cold water dispenser gets to 39 degrees so there is no need for ice. The hot water dispenser gets to 185 degrees so no more microwaving or boiling water for tea.

This water dispenser can be turned on from the back by switching on the individual hot and cold switches. The hot water has a child safety lock on the front side of the machine that requires you to press the red button while holding your glass against the red lever. So it’s fine for those with small children. This modern machine will go great in the home, kitchen, gym or office.

Things to Consider Before Buying

If you are buying a water cooler for the office it will be necessary to consider where to place the cooler. You want an area that is easily accessible for everyone.

Remember to compare the size of the unit with space you have available. It will be very inconvenient to find out the water cooler doesn’t fit into that perfect spot you had picked out next to the fridge.

You also want to consider the noise level of the machine before placement. Most models are relatively quiet but some may make noise when dispensing or cooling water. This could be distracting to those trying to work.

Another consideration is where to store the water bottles. You may decide to keep water bottles on a rack for easy storage. At home, bottles may be placed in a pantry if space allows. Make sure to keep water bottles close to the unit or have a small dolly close by. Water should be stored in a cool dark location.

Most models have hot and cold water which is very convenient for either the home or office. The cold water is great because it doesn’t require ice. And the hot water is fantastic for making soup, hot chocolate, oatmeal, tea and instant coffee. Some models even offer a room temperature option for those that prefer room temperature water.

Even with these options, you will still want to consider the individual functions of the unit. Some models get water colder/hotter than other models.

Water coolers need to be cleaned or they will collect biofilm. Biofilm is a slimy bacteria ridden substance that can form on the inside of your cooler. Cleaning the water cooler is easy and requires about 15 minutes of your time with very few supplies. Your manual will have detailed instructions on how and when to clean. Make sure to clean the reservoir to remove any biofilm that has collected. Remember to turn off and unplug the unit before cleaning. Some units offer a self-cleaning mode. This will help prevent biofilm but you will still need to clean and disinfect the outside with a soft cloth or sponge. The drip tray will also need to be cleaned regularly to prevent mildew.
Descaling is necessary if you are using mineral water. Descaling removes mineral buildup and will need to be done every 3-12 months depending on machine use and amount of buildup. Your manual will give instructions on how to do this. It’s pretty easy and takes about 5 minutes. It usually involves mixing a solution of white vinegar and hot water to run through the unit.

Conclusion

Owning a water cooler is a convenient way to stay hydrated whether you are in the home, office or gym. You should now have a better understanding of water cooler types, features, specifications and maintenance.

I hope this article has been helpful in your search for the perfect water cooler. My favorite water cooler overall is the NewAir WAT40B for it’s value.
