Water Iron Filtration is Popular for Residential and Commercial Purposes

Water iron filtration is a popular whole house well water filtration system for both commercial and residential applications. This system makes use of iron filters which take off the taste, odour, and straining problems caused by iron and manganese. These metals are not hazardous to the health; it is just that the problems they cause are offensive. Also, water iron filtration systems filter hydrogen sulphide gas, which produces a stinky odour like that of a rotten egg called sulphur smell. Moreover, water iron filtration systems can soften hard water, remove manganese, filter lime scale and iron, and clean water of bacteria, viruses and other contaminants.

If iron is not hazardous to health and just causes minor problems to the water, why is there a need to filter and eradicate it? This is because iron is one of the most common pollutants of municipal water systems and wells. Iron may be present in two forms. It may be as ferric iron or precipitated iron, which can be easily seen and removed by mechanical water sediment filters because these are tangible solid particles, such as rust. Iron contamination may also be in the form of dissolved iron called ferrous, which can only be taken off by special iron filters. You may notice in your laundry, plumbing or kitchen or bathroom fixtures some unsightly stains. These are caused by iron contamination.

To prevent such cases, special water iron filtration systems were developed. The system consists of filter cartridges which contain manganese greensand media. This media quickly oxidizes ferrous iron once it gets in contact with it. With this, the ferrous is converted into a ferric form which can now be filtered mechanically and be removed from the water. Water iron filtration systems are also efficient, working over a wide pH range. Furthermore, these systems do not pose a threat to the septic system.

The filter cartridge of water iron filtration systems should be replaced with a new one once it reaches its shelf life. The system does not require backwashing and media regeneration because it has automatic control valves that clean the filtration bed with at least a ten minute backwash and another ten minute rinsing every three to five days. With this, the system can last from eight to ten years. In replacing the filter media, all you need to have is a wet and dry vacuum to be able to get the old filter media out of the system. However, you may extend the life of your iron filter. You may opt to place a basic sediment prefilter system in front of the water filtration system. This ensures that contaminants will not clog the iron filter.

Installing this water filtration system only takes about half an hour because it comes in small sizes. Its sleek design makes it a good choice as it saves floor space. Indeed, this kind of water filtration system is a good choice for the home as it provides many benefits for the family.
