Water Filtration

One of the most essential parts of our very well-being is water itself. Our bodies are comprised mostly of it, and it has been proven that life itself on our planet would be near to impossible without the liquid. However, water can also breed life that may be unwanted in our bodies. It can be the breeding ground and home to an extremely wide variety of bacteria, parasites, diseases, and even poisons. So even though water may be an almost universal solvent, that is not entirely a good thing! In fact, around a century or so ago, many people were killed as a result of drinking water run through lead pipes. It is because of things such as this that eventually created a need for properly filtered water. Today, we not only refrain from using lead pipes, but water filtration systems are very advanced and come in a wide variety. In this article, we will explore some of the many types of water filters and filtration techniques.

Many wilderness survival experts suggest boiling water to get rid of bacteria. Boiling water certainly helps kill off any bacteria or parasites lurking around, but it still will not remove any small pieces of sediment or particles unwanted in drinking water. Distilling water is a very effective way to completely filter it, as it involves converting the water into steam, and then letting it condense back into water. The condensed water, known as distilled water, is almost entirely free of any unwanted particles.

However, the water distillation process involves a great deal of energy in the form of heat. To overcome this need, a far more advanced water filtration method has been introduced: ion exchange purification. This is where water passes through a bead-like resin, which effectively filters water. While it is far more advanced than distilling water, it has become one of the most common water filtration methods available.

There are many types to filter water. When it comes to choosing one, it all comes down to what will work out best for you and your family.
