We Explain the Basics of Water Purification: Learn What You Need to Know

Are you confused with the large range of water purification systems available in the market? Are you thinking of which one would suit you best? The best way to decide and make a choice is to understand the water purification technology being used.

There are a lot of methods of water purification available. Some of them are good while some of them are a lot better. One thing for sure is that water supplied to our homes is not healthy and is contaminated. Therefore any water purification technology, depending on which one you prefer, is necessary. The water supplied to our houses is just not suitable for drinking; thus, there is a need for water purification. Here are a few things to explain regarding the different water purification methods:

Water Distillation is one. This is the oldest water purification technology where the water supply is heated till it changes into vapours and then moves to a second vessel leaving the harmful contaminants behind in the first vessel. This method is good for eliminating most of the contaminants but not the ones like the chemical chlorine which themselves turn into vapour and moves along with the water vapour to the second container. Thus, the water made by such a method is not absolutely pure.

The second is reverse osmosis. This is one of the good ways of purifying water. In this method, water is forced, under pressure to move through a semi-permeable porous membrane. Water molecules being smaller in size move through the membrane while contaminants being larger are left in the filter.

This method is again good in purifying most of the organic and chemical contaminants but it simply does not work for chlorine and certain drugs. Also, since the necessary minerals existing in normal water are larger in size, they are also filtered from the water, thus making de-mineralized drinking water. Drinking such water can lead to multiple mineral deficiencies which are not good for the body.

Ion Exchange and Carbon Filtration is another. In some people’s perspective, this is the best method to ensure clean and safe drinking water. This is primarily a combination of two techniques which need multi stage filtering of water. The multi stage water purification which is based on this method is normally equipped with two filters. The first one has a carbon filter which effectively removes chlorine and additionally increases the PH balance of the water we usually drink. The second filter is based on the theory of the ion exchange methodology wherein the hazardous lead and copper traces usually present in the water supply are changed for useful potassium and sodium ions.

The multi stage water purification technology has the power of two efficient methods which specialize in eliminating specific contaminants and microorganisms and produce absolutely pure water. With this information in hand, we are now sure that it will be a lot easier for you to choose which water purification technology to use. Make a decision and enjoy the taste of pure and healthy water with the water purification system that suites your needs.
